Marathon Dynamics Latest News
May 13/12 - Sporting Life 10K
MDI-er Sherab Melvin, before pulling aside to kiss her hubby on her way to a very impressive 45 flat. After a 10 miler, a Half Marathon and not one but TWO marathons this season (including Boston) this was a fun victory lap to wrap it up!
Close to 20,000 runners flew down Yonge St. for the 3rd time in 4 weekends (much to the frustration of Toronto motorists!), and though most of the MDI crew had wrapped up their racing by the previous weekend, there were still a few of you who tried your luck to support the great cause (Camp Oochigeas)...and thank goodness, cause you guys ripped it up!
Still collecting results, but here's our best results so far (alphabetical):

THE FIRST "FINAL" WAVE OF SPRING 2012:
May 6/12 - Mississauga, Toronto, Vancouver, Quebec City
It was a coast to coast busy weekend of races for the Marathon Dynamics crew! Though we expect a few more fireworks at Sporting Life 10K, Ottawa Marathon and a couple of other races in the next week or two, the majority of the crew who hadn't already hung 'em up after ATB or Boston, laid it down this weekend.
In the GTA, the deceptively warm and unrelentingly sunny conditions wreaked a bit of havoc with the marathon crowds (especially those out there over 3.5hrs), but there were still some TERRRIFIC performances turned in. Without further ado, here are:

Above - Michelle Clarke triumphantly breaks the tape to win the Chilly Half Marathon!
Mar 7/11 - BIG Congrats to everyone who survived the Chilly Half Marathon slushfest this past weekend! There were some HUGE results from almost all MDI runners who gave it a go--especially considering the slippy, slidy, slushy, windy and "chilly" (how appropriate, huh?) conditions we faced. Depending on your finishing time, you lost between 1min30sec to 3min due to conditions, so adjust your time accordingly when evaluating how you did!

Summer/Fall 2010
What a season! With the coming and going of events earlier this month in Hamilton, Markham and of course big, bad, beautiful NYC—that’s a wrap!
62 years young MDI runner Jane Davies whoops it up in NYC...at the 25 mile mark, no less! Talk about renewable energy. Wish I looked that awesome at ANY point in ANY marathon I’ve ever run! (note: NYC was Jane’s 3rd marathon in just 6 weeks. She usually runs many more!)
From the almost 200 of you we worked ran, and played with these past five months, there were so many inspiring performances, it sure wasn’t easy to distil it down to a “Top 10”...but we’ll take a stab at it anyway (in no particular order or rank, other than alphabetical):
• June Barrett – 3:59 at Toronto Marathon ...a Boston Qualifier in her first year of marathoning!
• Kristin Dalzell – 1:43 at Toronto Half Marathon ...5+min PB in first season with MDI
• Ana & Dave Dennier – New MD runners, big shiny new marathon PBs at the Hamilton Marathon. Ana ran a 3:10 (2 min PB) and Dave ran a 3:18 (15 min PB) . One happy (and fast) couple!
• Stephanie Griffiths – 3:05 PB at Waterfront Marathon (2nd in age cat) , as the 2nd of 3 marathons in less than 2 months (averaging under 3:10 for all 3!)...mind-boggling!
• Linnea Humphrey – Ran 3:29 marathon SPLIT to close out a mindboggling 9hr58min Ironman PB in the Florida IM. 2nd in her age category, top 10 overall women (at age 44)...You go girl!
• Lindsay Lalonde – it’s not often (OK, never!) that a runner we coach goes out and smashes our race day plan/prediction by 7 minutes, but that’s just what she did, debuting in 1:46 at the Toronto Half . What will she do for an encore?
• Janine Moffett – 3:03 PB at Hamilton Marathon...3rd OVERALL woman . Wow!
• Peter Speight – It took 3 tries (two within 1 month), but after having his first 2 marathons this year sabotaged by heat and gastric distress, he nailed it at Hamilton—3:08! A huge PB & Boston Q
• Neil Stephenson – in June, he approached us never really having been a runner, and not even doing much exercise in general for years, and stated “I must run a marathon this fall”. After several attempts at remonstrating with him to change his goal to a 5K, 10K, or at most a Half, I realized “as crazy as it is, he’s going to try this no matter what”. So, after establishing some ground rules on how we’d proceed, I agreed to train him for the attempt. Long story short...HE DID IT! Completing the Toronto Marathon in just over 5hrs . Click here to read more of his incredible journey.
• Andrew Smereczynsky – 3:25 at Waterfront Marathon . With a previous marathon PB of 3:33, he came to us for help with making it to Boston. After a season of textbook training, and beautiful race day execution, not only had he done that, but set an 8 minute PB in the process. Well done!
• Glen Way – 3:04 PB at Hamilton Marathon. What a race...what a year! Over the past 10 months, Glen also ran PB’s at 5K, 10K, 15K, Half Marathon and 30km, ran the Boston Marathon, and did an 800km bike tour. To boot, he did all this in first time “dadhood”, since his son’s birth in February!
Congratulations to every Marathon Dynamics runner in 2010...let's dream even bigger for 2011!

You really have brought me to a place I never thought I would see. I never imagined I’d be able to deliver the race result that I did this past year. I’m still in disbelief of the time in fact! I've vastly improved through your coaching. You took me from a 4:02 marathon where I thought I left everything I had on the course down to a 3:19 in 3 years – with a BQ to show for it as a bonus!
Ken Moscoe
I'd achieved some success making my own training plans, but I felt I could improve and didn't know how. With the experience, knowledge, and technical expertise of Marathon Dynamics, I've been able to bring my half marathon PB from 1:48 to 1:34! I also ran my first marathon, and I'm heading to Boston next April. If you have the drive and determination, MDI can take care of the planning that ultimately produces your dream results. You'll marvel at coach Kevin's ability to assess your fitness and predict your race day results. You'll arrive at the starting line feeling super confident and ultra-prepared.
Kristin Dalzell after her 1st year with MDI
Run out to it!
